For the first time Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. was host to a round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross.  42,336 fans were in attendance and Fox Sports One aired all of the racing action live.

Weston Peick transferred to the main event from heat one, Justin Barcia earned a gate in the main from semi one.  Barcia, in just his second race back after a seven week layoff recovering from a cracked pelvis holeshot the main event leading the pack with Peick battling in the top-five.  Barcia relinquished the lead on lap four by which time Peick had moved into third.  The AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha teammates swapped positions on lap five when Peick moved into second with Barcia third.  Peick remained in second until the halfway mark when he settled into third, which is where he finished earning his first career podium finish.  Barcia was in seventh when he was struck by another rider from behind on lap 18 damaging his motorcycle and forcing him to pull off, he was credited with 16^th.

Fox Sports reporter Jenny Taft interviewed Peick after the race asking “you are up on the podium for the first time, how do you put it into words?”  Peick replied, “I’m super stoked, we have been working so hard, training so hard, trying to get to this point and it’s finally paid off.  Everyone has been busting their butts crazy hard, I’m just stoked to be here and words can’t describe what I’ve overcome through my career from five years ago to get to where I am now on the podium and it’s been awesome, I can’t even explain what I have been through to get here.”  Taft then said, “even this year you talk about getting through so much, you had injury after injury but every week you had a positive attitude, it felt like every time you come out here you are ready to go and you’re just attacking every night, is that something about your character that makes you stand out?”  “I have been at the bottom of the bottom…I have been to where I almost wanted to quit.  I am just so strong mentally and physically that nothing really gets in my way, if I break my foot and tear my MCL in the beginning of the season then it’s not going to stop me, I’m going to keep pushing and here we are at the top,” said Peick.

The penultimate round of the series will be held in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on April 25.  In yet another first, Fox Sports will broadcast the race live starting at 3:00 p.m. (EST).
