Webb Maintains GEICO EnduroCross Points Lead
Motorcycle Superstore Press Release
To say the GEICO EnduroCross series is exciting is an understatement, especially when you have a group of guys battling for the coveted red plate and the points lead week after week. Motorcycle Superstore Bell Helmet support rider Cody Webb was doing just that in Everett, Washington this weekend and even with a 3rd place podium finish, Webb still came out of there with the seriespoints lead.
Congratulations to overall winner Taylor Robert, who is no stranger to the podium, but Everett was his first GEICO EnduroCross win. Behind Robert was Colton Haaker, then Webb and current champion Taddy Blazusiak. Webb leads with 165 points, Blazusiak is second with 158, Haaker is close behind with 156 and Robert is in fourth with 133. With two rounds left, all four riders are still mathematically in the running for the championship.
“I started out riding tight and it was a technical course – it took a while to find my groove,” explained Webb. “I walked away with the win in my heat race and also set the fastest hot lap, giving me two extra points towards the championship. My Beta 300RR was performing perfectly in the main and I was able to open a nice gap for the lead. Unfortunately, a miscue in the rock pile and a misplaced foot in a deep hole sent me to the ground. I lost a bunch of timing getting my clutch perch back up to finish out the race. I was happy to get a podium finish and salvage the points lead going into Boise.”
The guys weren’t the only ones pounding the boulders in Everett, the Motorcycle Superstore girls were also there fighting for the points lead. The winner on the night was Sandra Gomez, her second win in a row and Morgan Tanke finished 2nd. Current champion and FMF/RPM/KTM Racing’s Chantelle Bykerk finished 4th earning enough points to maintain her points lead. The top three ladies in the points race are Chantelle with the lead at 121 points, Tanke in second with 117 and Rachel Gutish, who had an off night in Everett, holding down third with 107… still too close to call with two rounds left but it will definitely be a Motorcycle Superstore shootout for the championship.
