MOTOAMERICA TEAMS SET FOR DUNLOP PRESEASON TEST AT BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK
Want the opportunity to see the top MotoAmerica teams and riders up close and personal? How about getting that opportunity for free? Well, that’s what’s in store for fans who show up to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, March 26-27, for the MotoAmerica Dunlop Preseason Test.
Although MotoAmerica gives fans unprecedented access to its teams and riders at all of its 10 rounds, that’s turned up a notch at the Dunlop Preseason Test as a more relaxed atmosphere means even more access for race fans. And as a thank you for the support our fans show our series, MotoAmerica is offering free admittance to Barber Motorsports Park for the test.
All the top teams will be on hand at Barber for what officially marks the beginning of the season. From Barber, the teams will head to the opening round of the 2018 MotoAmerica Series at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia, just two weeks later for the Suzuki Championship at Road Atlanta, April 13-15.
Led by defending MotoAmerica Motul Superbike Champion Toni Elias, the majority of the top Superbike teams and teams from all five classes will be using the test to ready their motorcycles for the opening round while also working their way through the latest tires that Dunlop will be bringing to Alabama. Elias will be joined by his teammate Roger Hayden, the Monster Energy/Yamalube/Yamaha Factory Racing team of Cameron Beaubier and Garrett Gerloff, Superstock 1000 Champion and Superbike rookie Mathew Scholtz, Genuine Broaster Chicken Honda’s Cameron Petersen, KWR’s Kyle Wyman, the M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team of Jake Lewis and Supersport title hopeful Valentin Debise, to name a few.
In addition to the two days at the track, MotoAmerica will also play host to the MotoAmerica Livery Reveal at the Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham on Sunday, March 25 from 2 to 6 p.m., for an afternoon that will give fans a chance to see the teams in a completely different atmosphere as they show off their motorcycles and new paint schemes.
“As a rider, you want to leave the test as the fastest guy because that sets the tone for the season.” – Wayne Rainey
“The Dunlop Preseason Test is as close to a race as you can get,” MotoAmerica President Wayne Rainey said. “For the teams and riders, it’s go time as they all get together to see who has what just a few weeks before the season opens at Road Atlanta. As a rider, you want to leave the test as the fastest guy because that sets the tone for the season. That means our fans will see maximum effort from the riders and things can certainly get interesting. We’re really happy to be able to allow our fans to come to Barber Motorsports Park to watch the test, as it gives them a chance to really see the riders and teams up close.”
The two-day test will be open to the public beginning both days at 8:30 a.m. with all five MotoAmerica classes (Motul Superbike, Supersport, Stock 1000, Twins Cup and Liqui Moly Junior Cup) putting in sessions for two full days of on-track action at one of the country’s most picturesque circuits.
