Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez has successfully defended his status as MotoGP World Champion, clinching the 2014 title at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi circuit with three rounds to spare. For those who missed the action this season, MotoGP.com has a great recap of the young Spaniard’s title defense this year.

The victory also holds a special significance for Honda, being the first championship title won on their home track.

Marquez himself credits his victory this year to the changes made by the Honda techs to the chassis design, which he says allowed him to focus on improving his technique instead of worrying about the bike. Given the staggering lean angles and corner speeds he was able to achieve this season, Honda was clearly doing something right with Marc’s machine. He also credits Honda’s decision to allow him to bring in his own support team.
