Josh Herrin: Superbike Versus Supercar, Part One

Story and photos from motoamerica.com

Today’s Supercars are ridiculously high-horsepower, outrageously hella-fast, high-rpm machines capable of going 0-to-60 miles per hour in the two-second range and running the quarter mile in under 11 seconds.

With SCCA Hall of Fame race car driver Randy Pobst at the wheel of a Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06, a Porsche 992 GT3, and an Audi R8 Performance V10 Spyder, Hagerty’s Jason Cammisa sought to find out which of the trio was the world’s-fastest, naturally aspirated, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive car.

But, are they faster than a liter-class sportbike?

Enter 2022 MotoAmerica Supersport Champion Josh Herrin. He just showed up, seemingly out of nowhere, like Josh Herrin does. Oh, and he was aboard his Ducati Panigale V4 SP2.

The Panigale V4 SP2 features an 1103cc Desmosedici Stradale engine, carbon-fiber wheels, a dry clutch, and “SP” technical specifications that push the racing characteristics of the bike to their maximum.

Could Josh Herrin on a Superbike win a quarter-mile drag race against Randy Pobst in a Supercar? Also, could Herrin do a quarter-mile drag race without pulling a gaudy wheelie just for grins along the way?
