JGRMX Race Report – Anaheim 1
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 4, 2015) – The opening round of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series took place on Jan. 3 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. A sellout crowd of 45,050 was in attendance and the entire event aired live on Fox Sports One to a worldwide audience.
Weston Peick transferred to the main event in semi number one, and Justin Barcia won semi number two earning a place in the main. When the gate dropped in the main event both riders were racing around the top-10 in thick first lap traffic. Barcia was involved in some minor contact that dropped him back to 14th while Peick logged in at 9th at the completion of lap one of 20. By the halfway mark Barcia had advanced to 10th with Peick sixth. Peick rode consistently in sixth while Barcia methodically moved through the field finding himself behind his teammate on the final lap. At the finish it was Barcia sixth and Peick seventh for the night.
“Both guys rode well,” said Jeremy Albrecht, the AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha Team manager. “They both overcame a tough start, Barcia passed nearly half the pack, and Peick was solid the entire race. This is a good start to a long season,” added Albrecht.
The tour will next visit Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz. on Jan 10. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live at 9:00 p.m. (EST).
