Haslam focuses after getting maximum from testing
Leon Haslam feels his JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad has produced its maximum during pre-season testing and is in a strong position to start on the front foot at Silverstone this weekend.
Haslam is gearing up for his return to the MCE British Superbike championship, after enjoying a seven-year stint in World Superbikes, and makes his comeback to the national series with the factory-supported JG Speedfit Kawasaki squad alongside James Ellison and Peter Hickman.
The 2016 season begins at Silverstone and Haslam’s last win in BSB came at the same track, albeit it with different regulations eight years ago, and he is confident he can attack the front-runners in the curtain-raiser having topped the official BSB pre-season test at the same track last week.
“I really can’t wait to get racing. It’s been a long winter and although we’ve covered plenty of miles in testing I just want to get out and race now,” Haslam said. “I don’t think we could have worked any harder during testing and that means we’re in a real good position to come out and get some great results from the off.
“Topping the timesheets here in the test last week is positive and definitely means we come into this weekend confident. Silverstone is a great circuit to make my BSB return too, it’s a Grand Prix level track and one I love to race on so roll on Sunday.”
This weekend marks the 32-year-old’s competitive debut with Kawasaki after splitting from Aprilia over the winter when the Italian manufacturer confirmed it was withdrawing its factory effort to concentrate its attention on MotoGP.
