Glendale Race Report
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Feb. 7, 2016) – For the first time, University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. held a round of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship in front of 53,055 fans. Fox Sports Two broadcast the race live.
Toyota is involved in several action sports genres other than supercross and frequently finds ways to cross-segment its athletes. Team Toyota athletes Drew Bezanson and Jamie Bestwick were on hand to participate in a special Toyota USA BMX Best Trick Contest outside of the stadium during the Pit Party. Bezanson, a BMX park style rider who has won contests all over the world, including medals at X Games competed in the event. Bestwick, a vert style BMX rider who has among his many other accomplishments won a record nine consecutive X Games Gold Medals before earning a Silver Medal in 2015 was the host and announcer for the contest. JGRMX has worked with both Bezanson and Bestwick in cross promotions in the past and they each spent a good deal of time at the Autotrader/Monster Energy/Yamaha Team hauler before the contest.
When the racing began Peick transferred directly to the main event from heat two, Nicoletti earned a gate from semi two. Peick began the main just outside of the top-10 with Nicoletti 15th. Peick rode consistently throughout the 20 laps finishing 11th. Nicoletti had worked his way up to 13th when a mishap on lap 12 relegated him back to 19th. He finished 17th.
Justin Barcia continues to recover from his successful thumb injury and will return to racing as soon as he cleared by his doctors.
The next round of the series will held at Petco Park in San Diego, Calif. on Feb. 13. Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live starting at 10:00 p.m. (EST).
