C&J Racing Moves Forward With Yamaha Powerplants
The rumor has been buzzing for a long time about the new Yamaha FZ-07 motor and what impact it will have on Flat Track racing. I have long said that this motor will change the game. Ever since I got a peek of this motor in person at the 2013 EICMA Show in Milan Italy, I knew this was one motor that would change the game. A few months later I had the opportunity to ride a road going stock FZ-07. This motor is GOOD…VERY GOOD. However, it needs a home. While there are up to 5 chassis builders at this time developing frames for the FZ-07 powerplant, only one is being up front about it and has 3 available for purchase. That is famed chassis builder Jeff Cole of C&J Racing. Below is their press release:
“Jeff Cole, Founder of C&J Racing Frames has produced a new chassis for the Yamaha FZ-07, and has collaborated with Southland Fabrication in the Construction of these Frames. Seven of the first ten are already spoken for. Now that progress is being made with these, orders are being taken for the remainder and plans are in the working for the next ten. This power plant is solid, built with Yamaha’s legendary reliability with a 270 degree firing pattern for maximum traction. While the powerful and iconic Harley Davidson XR750 mill is still the most well known and has the most race victories, I believe this Yamaha motor will change the sport more than the Kawasaki EX650 motor ever did. Yamaha is coming in full bore in 2015, by not only fielding an IN HOUSE factory team, but also providing contingency money to other racers and teams who want to field their own efforts. Reports are coming in that even well known and long time Harley Davidson racers are purchasing these frames and motors in as much of a secretive fashion as possible so they can make sure they will be at the race track on a level playing field. This could be the new age of flat track. Harley Davidson has long carried the sport on it’s own back, providing sponsorships and contingency for it’s faithful. Triumph came to play and is making a lasting impression through their development. Suzuki has left the sport, but could they renew their commitment now that another Japanese OEM is making a stand? Will Kawasaki finally do more than provide a couple of motors to select teams now that they aren’t the only excellent engine platform in town? There are lots of questions, making the upcoming season even more exciting. Stay tuned for the fireworks.

Maybe, just maybe, this will kick HD into building/campaining a more modern engine to compete w/the other factory efforts nowthat the AMA has seen fit to open up competiton to save flattrack series. The Harley faithful isn’t enough to keep the series afloat any longer.
