Anaheim II Supercross Race Report

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 24, 2016) – For the second and last time in 2016 Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. was host to Monster Energy Supercross.  It was the 68th time the venue has held a race, more than any other stadium.  42,943 fans were in attendance and Fox Sports One aired all of the racing action live.  As reported earlier, Phillip Nicoletti substituted for Justin Barcia who is recovering from surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament.

The Fox Sports One broadcast included a special feature on Weston Peick, highlighting his rise from a struggling privateer to a salaried racer on an elite team.  Peick’s story is unusual, in that typically riders on factory backed teams come straight through the amateur ranks right into paying rides.  Peick’s determination and commitment has resulted in the realization of his dream from a very young age.

In addition to the Peick feature, Toyota, the founding sponsor of the JGRMX team as well as the manufacturer sponsor to the JGR championship NASCAR effort began airing a 30-second commercial featuring several members of the team.  The piece was broadcast numerous times during the live show on Fox Sports One as well as inside Angel Stadium on the Jumbotron.

Peick won Semi Two with Nicoletti just behind in third place, giving both riders a gate for the main event.  In the main Peick began the race in the top-five with Nicoletti just inside the top-10.  On lap six of 20 Nicoletti suffered a crash that ended his night, he was credited with 21st place.  Peick was riding inside the top-10 the entire race until with just two laps remaining he went down briefly causing him to finish 14th.

O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. will host round four of the 17-race series on Jan. 30.  Fox Sports One will broadcast the race live starting at 10:00 p.m. (EST).
