Improved tech for Triumph’s entry-level adventure bike.By Ben PurvisUpdated: 5 hours ago
At under $10,000 Triumph’s Tiger Sport 660 is the cheapest way to get onto one of the brand’s three-cylinder adventure bikes. And while the price remains the same for 2025, the updated version promises a slew of tech upgrades that make it a more appealing machine.
Apart from the new colors for 2025, either in Sapphire Black for the base price of $9,695 or the choice of Roulette Green, Carnival Red, or Crystal White at extra cost, there’s no visual clue to distinguish the updated model from its predecessor. Instead, all the updates come in the form of additional rider-assist technology.
The first, and the one that’s likely to make the biggest day-to-day difference, is the addition of a bidirectional quickshifter (Triumph Shift Assist) as standard, eliminating the need to use the clutch for most gearchanges once you’re on the move. In the past, that would have been a $290 option. Similarly useful is the addition of cruise control as standard, something that wasn’t previously available on the model at all.
Less obvious—at least until you need them—are the 2025 Tiger Sport 660′s uprated ABS and traction-control systems. Both have been updated with the addition of an Inertial Measurement Unit enabling lean-sensitive functionality for the new model, allowing the features to work more effectively when the bike is banked over in corners. While common on more expensive bikes, it’s encouraging to see this tech filtering through to lower-range models favored by less experienced riders who might benefit from them the most
Another useful 2025 change is the adoption of the My Triumph Connectivity Module (previously a $255 option) as standard. It provides smartphone connectivity to the instrument display, including turn-by-turn navigation and control over calls and music. However, the dash itself, with an old-fashioned white-on-black LCD readout for the main information including speed, revs, and fuel level, supplemented by a small color TFT section set below it, lacks the configurability of the larger TFTs that are becoming increasingly commonplace.
These changes aside, the Tiger Sport 660 is essentially the same bike that was launched for the 2022 model year, with a Showa inverted fork, Nissin brakes, and—despite being part of Triumph’s Adventure range—a road-oriented sport-touring setup including 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Power, peaking at 80 hp at 10,250 rpm, comes from the 660cc version of Triumph’s three-cylinder engine, with an even 240-degree firing interval rather than the offbeat 180-270-270 degree pulse of the T-Plane triples used on larger Tigers. Max torque is 34.8 lb.-ft. at 6,250 rpm. In a ready-to-ride state, the bike weighs a manageable 456 pounds. Carryover conveniences include an adjustable windshield and low maintenance costs thanks to 10,000-mile service intervals and short workshop time for standard service items.
Triumph expects the 2025 Tiger Sport 660 to reach dealers in January 2025.
